A Very Real Problem-Urgent Prayer Request

We do not know these missionaries personally but we do know that they are Independent Baptist missionaries. We do know that this is a very real issue here in Mexico. We can only imagine the support they need right now through the prayer of every saint of God.

Forwarded from Victory Baptist Press:

Nehemiah Gomez Kidnapped:
We just got a call from Brother Humberto Gomez telling us that his twenty-six year old nephew, Nehemiah has been kidnapped in Mexico. The kidnappers are demanding a large sum of money, or, they say Nehemiah will be killed today (Thursday).
For more information you may call Humberto Gomez at
956-867-1281.

UPDATE: Last night the kidnappers let Nehemiah call his dad, Jose Gomez and tell him he had until today (Friday) to pay the ransom money. From that we know that Nehemiah is still alive. Please pray much through out the day, it would also be deeply appreciated if you would forward this email to your friends and encourage them pray.

"A Good Thing"

"Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour with the LORD." Proverbs 18:22
Today we have had the opportunity to celebrate a Happy Birthday to Peggy. I thank God for my wife and I thank her for joyfully sharing life and ministry with me. Twenty-five years of marriage, six children, one grand child, twenty-three years of ministry and she has simply grown more beautiful through it all.
so - "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" to Peggy from your grateful husband and children.

"P.S"
"Puppy Supplement" Well Caramela is back. Our neighbor ask us how the puppy was and I told him the story. He in turn confronted the man who sold her to us. Evidently it was his dog and the lady who came by to claim her was lying! He in turn confronted the lady and returned our dog to us. I would still take that Rhodesian Ridge back though.

"Dog Gone"- but what does that mean?

Dog Gone" - but what does that mean?
Ever since Ezra had his four wheeler stolen we have toyed with the idea of getting a dog. Our neighbors keep telling us that we need a dog. Our landlord had a dog when he lived here, a Golden Retriever named Lester. Lester was a kind dog and loved to be petted through the fence but evidently none of our neighbors ever discovered that and speak of that big mean dog that the landlord owned.
We have actually looked on line in Tucson and considered the shelters for a dog but decided that if we got a dog we wanted a puppy to grow with us. I found a beautiful red Doberman but I do not have a thousand dollars to spend on a dog and I do not think I would even if I had everything else paid for and I all ready supported every missionary I know.
Enter "Solo Vino" or Hobo in English. One day we woke up to Solo Vino who had made his way into our yard. Solo Vino was a wiry mix, malnourished enough to fit through the fence. He also had a very severe case of flea rash or the mange. I took pity on him and gave him a bath with Dawn to help him out and Peggy began feeding him. We were not really sure he was the dog for us but never mind his stay was short-lived and he was gone.
Last Thursday a guy stops by the house and asked if I was interested in buying a dog. Not really I answered but he wanted to bring his dog by anyway. Enter Caramela (an adaptation of Caramel in Spanish) a cute cocker spaniel. The price was right ($250.00 pesos - about $23.00 dollars) - he said he needed money for food. My first thought was that the dog is stolen so I told him we would take a day to think about it. Well, the next day, Friday, I went by his house and found him and his family living in a cardboard shack, so I bought the poor little dog and gave him a little bit extra to help feed his family.
Saturday morning I washed Caramela and pulled out the ticks. She promptly initiated about every rug in the house but by the end of the day had learned to sit and stayed next to my chair. While we were entertaining some quest a family stopped by to inquire about Caramela who was on the front porch. Turns out Caramela is really Princess who was stolen from a family who lived a couple blocks down the road. It was evident their kids knew Princess and that Princess knew them.
Now today we have had two other dogs brought by the house "for sale". So "DOG GONE" but what does that mean? It means that people in our area know all of our business! It means that people are watching us and that they know why we are here, what we are doing and that they are watching to see what our reactions to these incidents in life are. So while we are not seeing them come to church services they are watching to see if Christ is in us. "Dog gone" - but isn't that the cat's meow.
Still looking for a dog though. Anyone have a Rhodesian Ridge-back needing a good home?

Confronting Our Benighted Population: Part One

Each year during the last days of September and the first days of October our town of Magdalena celebrates "Father Kino Days" in honor of the founding father of Magdalena de Kino - a Jesuit priest named Francisco Kino. He was entombed here in Magdalena and is now exhumed with a shrine built over his bones. A replica of him lies in an annex off of the Catholic auditorium where visitors gather to pray their vain repetitious prayers, pay their alms and then attempt to lift this idol to see if their prayers have been heard and their sin account is now light. This Jesuit priest traveled this whole northern Sonora and southern Arizona area on horseback and foot in his day and is now a "saint" for Catholics of our area. Adoration of him is very deeply a part of Hispanic and native Indian culture. Somewhere along the line a pilgrimage began for devout Catholics who now follow his path from Nogales, Arizona to Magdalena on foot. Our town doubles in population for the week and all of downtown is shut down to vehicle traffic. We had long heard about the fame of these "Kino Days" but this was our first year to experience it. The advice from most is to avoid it at all cost as there are more murders during this one week downtown than for the rest of the year in the whole city. Still it does present an opportune time to hand out gospel literature and so we made our way into town during the early afternoon when it was daylight and still quite early to avoid the many who would be drunk and drugged. We were able to pass out a lot of gospel tracts and witness to quite a few. All of the activities take place on or in the immediate area of the main Catholic "church" downtown and are promoted by it. In turn a portion of all proceeds must be given to the "church".We do ask that you remember us in prayer. We do take precautions but we do not hide. We believe that the true gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ is the answer to all of man's needs.

Contemplating Our Blitzing Plan:

A group from our church will be with us from November 2 - 9. We are really looking forward to having them with us. Pastor Ismael Zamarron and some of his folks will also be coming up from Navajoa to help as well as Pastor John Perez and a group of his Bible School students from Hermosillo. We are looking forward to a great week of soul winning together.
When we began the Mohave Baptist Church there in Bullhead City, Arizona this type of evangelistic meetings proved to be foundational in getting a start. We are praying that this week of soul winning will see many souls saved and give us several believers with which to continue with. We will appreciate your prayers for us during this week.
There is always room for a few more and if you would like to make a trip on down our way just give us a shout so that we can get you here and be prepared for you when you come.

Continuing Our Building Preparations:

We have been continuing our building renovations and now have the outside completely painted. We are still lacking our church name, times of services and contact information on the outside but hopefully that will follow soon.
In November we will have the help of a group from our church to paint on the inside. Currently the building is basically completely open on the inside but in due time we hope to be able to put up some walls to divide off a dedicated sanctuary, several class rooms and a fellowship area. That will all have to come in due time.
As you can see from the pictures the family has again played a big roll in the ministry. Thank God for a family that serves Him together.

Concluding Our Brief Participation

For the months of August and September we helped fill in for an elderly missionary here in our state of Sonora, Mexico. He had needed to take a short furlough by request of several of his supporting churches and had asked us to fill in for him in his absence. It was a blessing for us to have the participation of established believer's to help us hone our Spanish and use Biblical terms that are not normally used from day to day.
While we took care of his works we had a special day for a baby dedication which must always include a special meal.
The missionary is now back and has thanked us for our help to him. He has also relayed several good comments that were passed along by the people of those works including several on the good example grasped from Ezra, Abigail and Anna
